Montrose was contracted to independently review UNICEF’s Myanmar’s Child Friendly School and Language Enrichment Programmes, which began in 2001.
The projects were made up of a number of in-service teacher training programmes focused on strengthening rights-based child-friendly pedagogy and increasing student learning.
Solution
The review evaluated the effectiveness of the Child Friendly School initiatives.
Additionally, the review will help harmonise the Ministry of Education’s future in-service teacher training content and modalities into a “minimum content/package” of in-service teacher training in line with the Teacher Competency Framework that was under development at this time.
Impact
Since this review, Myanmar’s political and educational context has changed significantly, and has included the development of a Teacher Competency Standards Framework, the passing of the National Education Law of 2014, and the Ministry of Education’s publication of the National Education Strategic Plan (NESP) 2016-2021.
