Madagascar has seasonal malaria transmission and is a major cause of morbidity among the general population.
For our client, malaria was the leading cause of lost work days among its local employees.
A malaria control programme had been established at its main site in Mandena.
Our client was also expanding operations to a new area – St Luce.
Solution
Montrose was contracted to carry out an audit of our client’s malaria control programme at Mandena and design a new malaria control programme for the future operations at St Luce.
The audit at Mandena included reviewing vector control interventions, case management, malaria surveillance and programme management.
The programme design work at St Luce included carrying out an assessment of malaria risk, proposing appropriate vector control interventions and estimating human and financial resource requirements.
Impact
In addition to reviewing the measures already in place, the audit assessed options for expanding the inside-the-fence malaria control programme to outside-the-fence control to protect affected communities.
