There is a great need in Sierra Leone for reconstructive surgery for trauma, burns, birth defects and infections.
Because of high prevalence and severe shortage of treatment facilities, the World Health Organisation has identified these interventions as priorities for low-income countries.
Resurge Africa set out to create a sustainable surgical unit in Sierra Leone to address this need.
Solution
Montrose will conduct the independent evaluation of the project funded by Jersey Overseas Aid (JOA).
The evaluation will serve as a learning exercise to inform Resurge Africa’s future work in constructing facilities and training surgeons in burns and reconstructive surgery.
Montrose will also conduct an organisational evaluation to assist and advise the charity in its strategic direction for the next five years.
Impact
Montrose’s independent evaluation will support Resurge Africa in its strengthening of health facilities in low-income countries.
We will also support the charity in its ability to monitor and report on projects by developing evaluation tools that can be adapted for future use.
This in turn will strengthen the charity’s position when applying for grants in the future.
